Dance Curator | Producer | Founder

Danni Gee

Danni Gee has over 35 years of experience in the Arts and Entertainment industry. She has toured as a principal dancer with PHILADANCO! The Philadelphia Dance Company, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. As a vocalist, she has performed with artists such as Kathy Sledge, of Sister Sledge fame, Gloria Gaynor, and Cher as well with her own indie rock band, Suga Bush, that Danni founded in 1999 as the lead singer and songwriter. Danni, however, has always kept one foot in the dance world. In 2006, Danni accepted the position of Dance Curator for City Parks Foundation SummerStage, New York’s largest, free outdoor festival. In her 13 curating seasons, she has engaged and commissioned such established companies as Parsons Dance, Dance Brazil, Kibbutz Contemporary Company, Martha Graham Dance Company, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Camille A. Brown & Dancers, Abraham. In. Motion, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, as well as provided performance opportunities for many emerging choreographers and teaching artists. Danni also leads the curation of the SummerStage community dance workshops and panels, the Arts Youth Intensive programming, and the annual Central Park Youth Matinee, as well as assists with the booking and contracting of the festival’s domestic and international music artists.

In April 2020, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Danni pivoted her curation to all virtual, successfully creating an online dance season which featured three premiere dance films, SummerStage’s first-ever Juneteenth celebration, weekly conversations and workshops, and a day-long recognition of National Dance Day, which featured companies from across the country, and testimonials from notable dance artists including Misty Copeland, Bebe Neuwirth, Robert Battle, and Judith Jamison. Additionally, after seeing so many of her fellow industry friends and loved ones suffering economically, Danni created the weekly Instagram series, dannIGeeLive, where she livestreams interviews with artists across disciplines. Throughout the chat, we hear their stories as well as learn ways to support them individually or their organizations. Danni plans to continue this series an expand it via her Danni Gee TV YouTube platform and others in 2021.
