Sandra L Burton
Sandra L Burton is a dancer, choreographer, educator and arts presenter. She holds an MFA in Dance from Bennington College, a BA in Dance and Theater from the City University of New York and an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. At Williams College since 1983, Burton is Lipp Family Director of the Dance Department and Senior Lecturer. Burton serves on the boards of Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, The Clark Art Institute and is a member of the Dance Africa Council of Elders. She was a member of the Chuck Davis Dance Company for eleven years and toured nationally as Dancer as well as Assistant to Artistic Director, Education Coordinator and Assistant to Company Manager. Her teaching residencies have included the National Endowment for the Arts, Jazz Mobile, New Jersey State Arts Council, The Flynn Center in Vermont and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Choreography for theater credits include PlayMakers Repertory Theater (Chapel Hill, NC), Goodman Theater (Chicago) and five seasons with Williamstown Theater Festival. She has collaborated with composer Craig Harris, visual artist Carrie Mae Weems and visual artist Nick Cave. Burton is currently collaborating with students and faculty at Brooklyn’s Gotham Arts Academy and Williams College for an online course “Dancing in The Streets: Voices for Reflection and Change”.
